What the heck is "The Rubber Duck Pub"?
It has long been an ambition of mine to have my own pub. As I can't afford one or even the lease of one, I came up with the idea of creating my own mobile pub/outdoor bar. I would need a marquee, a mobile bar, some beer taps and pumps and some other bits and pieces.
First off was the marquee. I found one on lobay.co.uk (If you've never tried it, do it today. It lists all items within a set distance that the sellers don't want to post due to the size/weight of the item) and I finally got it for £64. It is massive (3m x 9m) so there won't be any trouble fitting things like a bar etc. into it.
It's very nice but just a big white tent. That was when I came up with the idea to use it as a canvas to create a proper British Pub complete with flower window boxes, a big sign outside, a big log fire inside with maybe a dog or a cat asleep in front of it. But that means getting an artist in to paint it.
So Gordon and I are sat in a pub talking about the sign. It should be a proper traditional British Pub name like "The Fox and Hounds" or "The Queen's Arms" but I also wanted it to be a bit quirky. After several pints and a lot of talking b*ll*cks, Gordon came up the "The Rubber Duck". I immediately liked it. It had a bit of the old cockney rub-a-dub-dub especially if you called it "The Rubber Duck Pub" so the Duck was christened and after a few more pints we toddled off into the night...
